Here is one of the many boats that ply the Backwaters of Kerala
So, after the floods and a very long bus ride, we arrived at a ferry docking place. We spent about an hour waiting, then got on and spent another hour and a half riding along. The pollution in the river was horrible, and in certain spots you were able to see a layer of oil over the water. We arrived at Green Palm Homes , and was surprised at what it was like. At first Mom had made the impression that it was a luxury hotel. I was super excited, but . . .

then she told me that we'd be staying in somebody's home, and my spirits dropped. I expected it to be like the one we'd stayed at last, with the bugs in bed, but it was far nicer. We're staying in The Cottage, and all our meals are included. The Cottage is more like a one-bedroom apartment, maybe even smaller, but the Main House is where everyone else is staying, which makes it more like a hotel because there are so many people. It's really nice, with a bunch of palms all around it (no duh) and everybody is friendly. We arrived on New Years Eve, and fireworks kept us up all night. We celebrated some, but were mostly too tired.
