Today we went to the Matrimandir. The Matrimandir is at the very centre of Auroville. It's a big, gold, globe-type building. Once you step onto the field surrounding it, you have to be absolutely quiet or else you will be asked to leave. When we reached the Matrimandir, we took off our shoes and they gave us white socks to wear inside. The inside of the Matrimandir is very clean and very white. We walked up marble stairs and then two ramps with soft carpets. All this time we had to be quiet, and I knew a few people were struggling. We entered a dark chamber where The Crystal is. a glass ball that does something special with sunlight. A lot of people were meditating and it was extremely quiet. Our group only stayed for a few minutes but I liked the quiet yet alert atmosphere. I felt more peaceful even than at the buddhist temple.
After that our group went to the amphitheatre and a fellow answered our questions. Then we went to a massive tree. It's called a banyan tree, and it has new trees growing off it's branches. Like, the branch went out, then it grew another limb that planted itself into the ground and grew roots! It looks like a small grove, but it is really just one tree. It's pretty cool! We also saw a really small owl in it's branch!
Later Birch showed me the Youth Centre. It has the most epic teeter-totter, but Birch and I can't really do anything on it 'cause we have too much of a weight difference. It also has a gyroscope! That's my favourite thing, 'cause it's so fun to be spun up-side-down!
