_We went on a game drive! A game drive is a safari for only half a day.
We woke up at six and caught the 7:00am ferry, which is a mini platform that carries eight cars. We had hired a guide and a safari vehicle for the trip since it is better to have a guide. Our guide's name was Emma, don't laugh . . . it is a popular name in these parts . . . for boys. On the ferry, while docking after two minutes of travelling across the Nile, we spotted hippos in the waer! EEk! All you could see was their ears! They are so cute and fat! We drove a little and soon I was sitting on the roof of the SUV, enjoying the breeze. There were so . . .
_many deer, bushbucks, redbacks, waterbucks, bushbunnies . . . My favourite was the bushbunnies because they are so small. Birch spotted a baby and it must have been the size of Dad's hand.
_ Suddenly there along a sloping hill trotted three giraffes and two lumbering elephants! The giraffes nibbled at thorny trees with bronze and gold skin. They are so graceful. One elephant was hugging a tree with it's tusks . . . spread the love!
_Then the jeep broke down and for one hour and a half we sat in the African Savannah waiting . . . The savannah is hot, with underbrush and antelope leaping into view every couple of minutes. While we waited and while our guide tried to fix something, Emma explained the behaviour of buffalos. Emma considers them the most dangerous animal in this National Park because they will spontaneously charge and possibly kill you. Especially the males and to our left, four male buffalos glare at us from the side of the road.
_Actually buffalos are quite interesting. Males have fat horns and females have skinny horns. They are SO big! Bigger than a dinner table . . . maybe as big as a picnic bench! Later on we saw two that were huge! They were both males and had two white birds standing on their backs. The Jeep finally roars to life and by then all of the animals had disappeared to look for some shade.
