_ Have you ever been caught in a flood? You don't want to - it's no fun. On the way to the bus station, where we would catch a bus to Alleppey, we were caught in floods. Changing our running shoes into crocks, we stepped out of the bus - that we were suppose to take to the Central Bus Station, but the floods were too high - and plunged knee-deep into sludge-water. Wading to an elevated sidewalk, we tried not to get our shorts wet. What was strange, though, was that . . .
_everybody was laughing and smiling. Mom and Dad followed their lead, but I just couldn't. I kept seeing remains of street vendor's carts and fruit floating in the water. People were bailing out their shops, like we would a boat. But still, everyone was laughing and happy! At one point I thought I was lost, and panicked, but Mom and Dad were just on the other side of the boulevard. The buses sprayed everyone and I got some of the dirty water in my cut. It stopped stinging after half an hour. Finally we found our way to the bus station and got on the bus, soaked. It was quite an adventure, and I admit a little fun, but sitting in a stinking bus while water spreads throughout your jeans - well, I'd liked to have lived without it.
