Math
We started Math Makes Sense, Grade 5. I have really been working hard, spending hours each day doing math. We completed Unit 1 in the first week, and are onto Lesson 3 of Unit 2. We are going to complete Unit 7 by the time we leave and do the last 4 units in June.
Art
This week I made a doll and named her Gema. I made her out of old sheets that my dad got from my grandparents' attic. He thought Mom would want them, but she says they are good for art material. I used embroidery thread for her mouth and hair and to sew her together. I have a sewing kit with different sized needles and lots of colours of thread. I also have sewn together 5 outfits for Gema this week.
Health
My mom gave me a puberty talk but I'd rather not get into detail with that.
Yesterday in the art room, the glue gun started dripping onto a googley eye that I had left under it by accident. I found a whole piece of dried glue and tried to rip it off. I did it so fast that my hand flipped onto the melted plastic googley eye. It took me a few moments to realize my finger was burning. I tried to take it off with my other finger, but burnt it too. I ran to ice my hand. Later my blister had grown to the size of a pea. By the time dinner was over, it was the size of a bean. Now I can't do any watersports, like skiing or disking or wakeboarding, because the blister is on my top knuckle and I can't clutch a rope. It's also hard to eat with my left hand. I guess the best thing is, I can't wash dishes for two weeks.
Lesson learned: Use ice for burns. Don't pop the blister, or the growing skin underneath might get infected.

Creative Writing
On Text Edit, I am writing a chapter book. It is about a girl named Neltle Grehy (pronounced Nettle Grey). It is a mystery about what happened to her Mom and sister 8 years ago. You'll have to find out the rest of the plot when I share it with you later.
Literature
I have been reading all kinds of books. The one I am currently on is "All-of-a-kind Family" by Sydney Taylor. Out of 14 books that I read this past summer, my favorite is "Luv Ya Bunches" by Lauren Myracle.
